Saturday, November 26, 2005
hEllo great and loyal readers of DotaSG,

First, abit about myself. I am part of dotasg, same as kel and everyone else. Anyway, dont mind my bad points. if I missed out anything, put it up in the forums and I'll make sure to put it down the next time. hahax =)

Soooo.... anyway, it's day 2 of the Rapture Dota League and things seem to be going great. Erm, except for a few minor faults and problems. So lets just get to them.

Day 1:

There were a few problems with the computers mainly. 2 to 3 computers crashed and I believe one of them shut down automatically in between a match. Anyway...that's bout mainly it. Winners for day 1 are:
- S.B.
- WeCookGrass
- Raging Pussies
- LOL.lercoaster

Day 2:

Matches are still going on. So far, there had been only 1 problem. In the match kkay vs. MJ is GAY, kkay was forced to destroy their refresher orb. They had not been disqualified due to the fact that they did not activate it since it was purchased. However, through the long match, there was a sudden fatal error. The verdic of kkay winning was then announced after the marshalls reviewed the replay.
So...as of now, the winners for today are:
- MYRM
- SeX
- MUGEN
- BOD
- Team Squashers
- Wheres the fun
- kkay
- Team SACRILEGE

P.S. I'll get u guys some photos later. LOLX. unfortunately, PAPASAN was suppose to pass me the camera, but he was held up a little. Stay Tuned for more updates later!!!

Off Topic: StarCraft Ghost.

Wednesday, November 09, 2005

StarCraft Ghost is going to be Blizzard's latest offering to the console gamers out there.

This should be Blizzard's first ambitious attempt in offering a FPS console game products. Any StarCraft or Blizzard fans should be anxiously anticipating for the launch of this game. Unfortunately, PC gamers will not have the luxury of having a taste of the game on their PC machines.

This game looks promising and might even knocks Halo2 and any other FPS console games alike off any ranking chart when it is launched.

Do check out the StarCraft Ghost official site for more information.

Also remember to download some of the great video trailers when you are there.

You will be forgiven for drooling......

DotA-Allstars.com is Back and New DotA Map Released.

Tuesday, November 08, 2005
DotA-Allstars.com's official website is finally back and they have released another updated map version in just a few days. Some of the bugs and issues were fixed in this latest version.

You can download the latest DotA 6.22 here.

News from DotA-Allstars.com mentioned that after a few more versions, with changes and fixes made to the map, it should become the official map version to be used for competitive game play. They are hoping that during the time when the stable version is ready, most of the existing issues would be fixed. Of course there will be other changes along the way as it goes.

This is a very good news for all DotA gamers, communities and tournament organisers. We should be all looking forward to see the stable version pretty soon. Guess we do not have to wait too long to see that day that this particular version will be used competitively worldwide.

Leaguemode (-lm) in DotA 6.20 revealed.

Tuesday, November 01, 2005
Many of you would probably be asking what in the hell is "leaguemode" aka "-lm" in DotA 6.20 and how the hell it works?

Well, fret not. The Papa is here to explain.

When you enter the 6.20 game, once you type "-lm", it will enter you into the league mode state. What happens next is that the first player(blue) on sentinels will have 20 sec to pick his hero. After he pick his hero then it will be the other scourge side's first player to pick within the 20 sec given also. This will goes back and forth until everyone picked their hero. I guess you all are clever enough to guess that this is the drafting system for DotA tournaments in Singapore.

However, after some testing there seems to be a little bug. I am not sure if it's suppose to be that way but whenever any player miss his selection after 20 secs the hero selection will not be available for that player and the selection will be pass over to the other side. However, after everyone else picked the game does not start. And any player who never get to select the hero will not get any hero even after the drafting process is over. No random hero is assigned to any player that missed the hero selection and the game just stuck there.

This is what I have concluded after a quick test. If anyone else have different experience with this mode, do share with us in our forums or in the comments section.

Offtopic: My 2 cents -
This drafting system of gameplay is actually pioneered by Rapture Gaming Pte. Ltd. Credits are also given to some avid DotA gamers too as they had also given some creative suggestions on how are the different ways to do drafting fairly.

Now, it is getting prominent that this drafting system is gradually creeping into mainstream DotA tournament events overseas. And right now it's even adopted by DotA development team. Many thanks to Icefrog's team for making it happens in the latest DotA version to include the league mode such that drafting process can be made easier with less manual work needed.

This game mode evidently promote fun, healthy and fairer tournament game play. What I concluded is, this game mode will be here to stay until another genius idea comes along to replace this mode.

Although I cannot say for sure that we directly have affect the way competitive DotA are, but I am pretty sure that all Singaporean's DotA gamers can be proud that a home grown company and our DotA community had done and made a little achievement in doing small part in influencing the DotA competitive gaming worldwide in some way.

Three cheers to all Singapore's DotA gamers, organisers and community for being the forerunner in accepting this game mode and showing the world that drafting system works wonders for a better tournament game play experience.
